Brief Guidance Note: Small Supplements for the Prevention of Malnutrition in Early Childhood (SQ-LNS)

About

This guidance note provides recommendations on the use of Small Quantity Lipid-based Nutrient Supplements (SQ-LNS) in UNICEF nutrition programming for infants and young children. It is primarily intended for UNICEF country office staff, but can also be used by governments and agencies addressing the nutritional needs of vulnerable children aged 6-23 months. The document's technical content is based on the latest evidence. An overview of SQ-LNS is provided, along with the rationale for its use in programming. The brief presents the approach for integrating SQ-LNS in preventive programming in Table 1, including: Targeting of populations and child age groups, dosage, duration and the modality of use.
